Customers at this year's Breast Yard Sale in Town may have to take the "scenic route" to get there. Ill. 2 will be closed for construction from Stronghold Castle near Oregon to Byron until sometime in November. Despite the detour, organizer Karen Virnoche-Brown said the sale will be well-worth the trip. "We've got everything," she said. "And since it's held inside, the sale goes on rain or shine." The ninth annual sale, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society, will open Saturday, May 28 and run daily through Sunday, June 19. The sale opens at 8 a .m. every day in the large, white barn at Virnoche-Brown's home, Maple Hill Farm, at 1194 Mud Creek Rd. , Oregon . Signs will point the way. This year's wares include the usual new and gently used bras and lingerie, a set of Lennox china, McCoy and Roseville pottery, dinnerware, crystal, porcelain, handmade soaps, thousands of books, furniture from an estate, home decor, clothing and shoes, yard tools, a carpet shampooer, children's games, books, and toys, as well as golf clubs and golf balls by the dozen. The new bras and lingerie were donated by Maidenform, Wacoal, and Essential Bodywear. The used, but like new bras, came from contributors in all 50 states. Over the years that she has hosted the sale, Virnoche-Brown, a three-time cancer survivor herself, has raised a grand total of more than $58,000 for cancer research. "When you support the American Cancer Society, you become an important part of a network of people who are committed to eliminating cancer. You help fund lifesaving research to find cures," she said.
